Learning log

This semester, we reviewed our goals and expectations. We discussed the role of being a team player and teamwork. After a discussion about team work with my classmates, we agreed that collaborative negotiation is a fundamental component of teamwork and teams allow members to achieve results far beyond their individual abilities. Some of the benefits of teamwork are:
Distributing the workload
Reinforcing individual capabilities
Creating participation and involvement
Making better decisions
Creating a feeling of accomplishment among all team members
Generating a diversity of ideas
Accomplishing projects an individual cannot do
Increasing the variety of solutions to workplace problems
Building a workplace community
Furthermore, we met Ruth Rooney who introduced and explained Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) to us. HBDI is a method of measuring an individual’s thought processes. HBDI involves a Four Quadrant Model of thinking preferences:
Analytical thinking
Sequential thinking
Interpersonal thinking
Imaginative thinking
By using HBDI, you can understand people better and match them with different parts of their jobs according to their strengths and weaknesses. According to Ruth Rooney handout from class, HBDI is useful to:
· Create more fluent relationships by understanding yourself and your interaction with others
· Recognize and develop less preferred thinking styles to broaden career potential
· Generate high-performance solutions by utilizing the ideal thinking style for each situation
· Delegate and manage staff and projects more effectively
· Work together more effectively - understand each others thinking preferences and reactions
· Create harmonious working environments and resolve conflicts
· Communicate successfully with peers and clients to get the job done sooner, better, cheaper and easier. (from HBDI handout)

Ruth Rooney gave the online exam to us. We did the online exam and he evaluated the results. The exam told me that I have an analytical thought process, which was a surprise to me as I thought I was more in the imaginative thought process group. These findings could be applied to our real lives including job choices.
The Art of possibility
The most important part of this book for me was the chapter called “Giving an A“. It is about the author giving and A grade to all his students before class began. His goal in giving everyone an A was to say that every student has a skill that is special to them and is deserving of a good grade and that by giving the A before class the students are not competitive with each other but are each excellent in their own way and live up to the grade they were given. The things that I learned from this book could be applied to my real life. For example, if I am a manager, I will look at my staff or the people who I work with in a positive way. Because I think that each person has a special skill but it may be different from the other person’s. I could use this knowledge to make the effective work as I could choose the person who fit with the job that I have. Work will be successful and more effective.
The video resume
Catherine introduced the video resume to us and I really love the idea of video resume. In my opinion, I should have a video resume if I want a job in marketing, sales, and creative design, freelance or human resources. This gives me the advantage where I will stand out from a pack. There are so many qualified people out there, and a lot of times you need an edge over your competition. The video resume is a great edge and it’s becoming popular. Some business owners also think that video resumes are great. Having a video of the candidate lets employers see the candidate and evaluate them. They can see the person’s personality and whether or not he or she will fit into the environment. The employers are able to find suitable candidates to call for interviews.

ILP Proposal
This semester, I wrote the ILP proposal. Catherine approved them and I was present by PowerPoint to my classmates. Everybody admired with my plan.
Lastly, I would love to thank you Catherine Seo to have me in the class and always support and suggest me to do the perfect ILP, this course help me to know how to plan and process my work.
