Giving An A

Dear Catherine,
I believe I deserve my grade A for many reasons. While in class I paid attention and listened to the teacher. I responded with the homework that the teacher gave to me. In class I loved to share ideas with my classmates and others, because I could see many points of views in the world. Because I am Thai, I come from a different culture which means that I also have a unique point of view and lots of things to contribute. I think the most important thing is that I believed in myself and used all my effort. Speaking English is difficult for me, but I tried very hard to speak up in class and in front of the group. This took courage.
This semester, I put together my ILP proposal, did a power point presentation and presented it to the class. My presentation went well – the power point was well put together and it generated a lot of discussion and questions from my classmates. This was advanced since the last semester when I only had the idea for the proposal and I felt my presentation did not go very well.
In my life, I believe I have made a "Grade A" too. I am a great daughter and love my family. I have traveled far to improve my English and learn about American business. Iwork hard to pay for my college tuition fee to obtain my Master's degree in Cambridge. I have paid for my education through my hard work and never have had to ask my family for money.

Learning log

This semester, we reviewed our goals and expectations. We discussed the role of being a team player and teamwork. After a discussion about team work with my classmates, we agreed that collaborative negotiation is a fundamental component of teamwork and teams allow members to achieve results far beyond their individual abilities. Some of the benefits of teamwork are:
Distributing the workload
Reinforcing individual capabilities
Creating participation and involvement
Making better decisions
Creating a feeling of accomplishment among all team members
Generating a diversity of ideas
Accomplishing projects an individual cannot do
Increasing the variety of solutions to workplace problems
Building a workplace community
Furthermore, we met Ruth Rooney who introduced and explained Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI) to us. HBDI is a method of measuring an individual’s thought processes. HBDI involves a Four Quadrant Model of thinking preferences:
Analytical thinking
Sequential thinking
Interpersonal thinking
Imaginative thinking
By using HBDI, you can understand people better and match them with different parts of their jobs according to their strengths and weaknesses. According to Ruth Rooney handout from class, HBDI is useful to:
· Create more fluent relationships by understanding yourself and your interaction with others
· Recognize and develop less preferred thinking styles to broaden career potential
· Generate high-performance solutions by utilizing the ideal thinking style for each situation
· Delegate and manage staff and projects more effectively
· Work together more effectively - understand each others thinking preferences and reactions
· Create harmonious working environments and resolve conflicts
· Communicate successfully with peers and clients to get the job done sooner, better, cheaper and easier. (from HBDI handout)

Ruth Rooney gave the online exam to us. We did the online exam and he evaluated the results. The exam told me that I have an analytical thought process, which was a surprise to me as I thought I was more in the imaginative thought process group. These findings could be applied to our real lives including job choices.
The Art of possibility
The most important part of this book for me was the chapter called “Giving an A“. It is about the author giving and A grade to all his students before class began. His goal in giving everyone an A was to say that every student has a skill that is special to them and is deserving of a good grade and that by giving the A before class the students are not competitive with each other but are each excellent in their own way and live up to the grade they were given. The things that I learned from this book could be applied to my real life. For example, if I am a manager, I will look at my staff or the people who I work with in a positive way. Because I think that each person has a special skill but it may be different from the other person’s. I could use this knowledge to make the effective work as I could choose the person who fit with the job that I have. Work will be successful and more effective.
The video resume
Catherine introduced the video resume to us and I really love the idea of video resume. In my opinion, I should have a video resume if I want a job in marketing, sales, and creative design, freelance or human resources. This gives me the advantage where I will stand out from a pack. There are so many qualified people out there, and a lot of times you need an edge over your competition. The video resume is a great edge and it’s becoming popular. Some business owners also think that video resumes are great. Having a video of the candidate lets employers see the candidate and evaluate them. They can see the person’s personality and whether or not he or she will fit into the environment. The employers are able to find suitable candidates to call for interviews.

ILP Proposal
This semester, I wrote the ILP proposal. Catherine approved them and I was present by PowerPoint to my classmates. Everybody admired with my plan.
Lastly, I would love to thank you Catherine Seo to have me in the class and always support and suggest me to do the perfect ILP, this course help me to know how to plan and process my work.

The Art of Possibility

I read some chapter of this book. It embraced me. Then I was mad at myself for realizing some of the places in my life where I was being so negative. It became crystal clear to me that there are a lot of people I don’t give an “A” in my professional and personal life. I love the idea that Ben give the sample involve with the musical stories. It's easier to understand.
I. It's all invented: "A shoe factory sends two marketing scouts to a region of Africa to study the prospects for expanding business. One sends back a telegram saying, Situation hopeless stop no one wears shoes. The other writes back triumphantly, Glorious business opportunity stop they have no shoes! This is what we all have the ability to do. Life experiences come to us in sequence: first, our senses bring us selective information about what is out there; second, the brain constructs its own simulation of the sensations; and only then, third, do we have our first conscious experiences of our milieu. Thinking outside of the lines, or boxes that we traditionally live in. Here's how to practice that step-Simply ask yourself this question; What assumptions am I making, that I'm not aware I'm making, that gives me what I see? When you have the answer to that question then ask yourself-What might I now invent, that I haven't invented, that would give me other choices?
II. Stepping into a Universe of Possibility: The universe of possibilities is the place you seek after you have discovered that it's all invented. This universe-like a page that displays-extends beyond the borders that confine us to everyday reality. Our current world that we survive in is made up on measurements. Measurements of achievement that we compare and contrast ourselves to. Our goal is to get up in the morning and instead of trying to figure out how to survive, we need to arise and yell out to everyone to look at how different things appear when you see them as possibilities. In this new world you make all things possible by creatively thinking and giving. Producing new life, creating new ideas, consciously endowing with meaning, contributing, yielding to the power of contexts. How do you practice this step? Ask yourself: How are my thought and actions, in this moment, reflections of the measurement world? Then you ask yourself: How are my thoughts and actions, in this moment, a reflection of the measurement world? And how now? Just keep asking yourself this question until one day you wake up and someone asks you how you are doing and you reply "Perfect" in light of all the problems you may face.
III. Giving an A: Grades only compare one person to another. Sound familiar? The old you living in the universe of possibility. According to Michelangelo, "Inside every block of stone or marble dwells a beautiful statue". If we could apply this concept to every student we would spend our time with nurturing the child's developing skills, mastery and self-expression. Freely granting an "A" to everyone that you work with or in your personal life expresses a vision of partnership, teamwork and relationship. Giving an "A" both invents and recognizes a universal desire in people to contribute to others, no matter how many barriers there are to its expression.
VI. How serious do you make things out to be? Is it worth getting yourself so worked up about an issue that you no longer are able to see any solutions? This is my favorite rule. Life is always going to be a bumpy ride. So take each bump that comes along and figure out how you are going to get over it. Plan, practice, look ahead, and take time for yourself and smile. Relax, it will all work out, maybe not how you originally thought. It's life, enjoy and learn.

My ILP (Ben Child Care Service)

Hello eveyone
Finally, I got my ILP topic "Ben Child Care Service".

Why does this interest me?
1. Previous experience : I was an au pair in America for one year and a half and then I work as a nanny for my part time job. I am realized that I hope to have my own business about day care in Thailand
2.Potential for growth and profit: In Thailand, we have life style very different from America; most of families in Thailand feel confident in day care better than the nanny. I think this business will be making good money for me in the future.
3
.Rewarding work: It was wonderful that we could see the kid's developement in evreyday.

How do I stand out?
Professional childcare is needed in every community, from small towns to large cities. The need for daycare is expected to increase as even greater numbers of parents enter or rejoin the workforce. According to the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, 65% of all mothers with children under five years old are in the workforce (http://www.naccrra.org/)

Is "Now" the Right Time to do this?
Now is the time to start my own daycare! The demand for child care is on the rise. Many experts expect to find more mothers, will be outside their home working, due to inflation and to the high divorce rate. And I'm sure you will agree that one pay check just doesn't go as far as it used to.

Development Plan

Get a better job and salary in the future. I hope that I can apply my knowlege that earn from Cambridge College to achieve my goal in the future
In my opinion, I think this four emotional intelligence competencies can help me reach my goal.

1.Building Bond
2.Teamwork and Collaboration
3.Optimism
4.Self-Confidence
I have to practice myself and apply these competencies in my real life because I couldn't only hope that I will do it. Everyday, every times I have to think and and apply these competencies to solve the problem. Absoloutely, I can say that the ILP assigmant will give me oportunities to practice and develop my EI competencies. I have to brainstrom all of my knowledge to do my ILP project. For example, I can apply the teamwork and Collboration to do my group assigment, this competencies will helped me a lot for work and communicate with other people. About Self-Confidence will helped me to show my opinion in the public area while I have to do a public speaking.
I will thinking about my goal first and it will be push me to control myself for achieve my goal.
Before I will do something I have to realize and think that what I will get it after I did this actions.
1.search for detail
2.Reealize and Evaluation in the positive and nagative ways
3.I will do it in the best way.
I can measure from outcome as if apply the four competencies to my ILP, maybe I will get A from the professor. This is just for the example.

Blogging to learn

I often get asked why I blog, and you’ve seen enough of my answers before. And it’s strange, how someone’s eyes glaze over when I come to the bit where I say “and I learn from my blog, from the comments my classmates leave”. I guess it’s hard to explain to people who don’t blog, how one can learn from blogging. It’s not just about shaping and refining ideas, you also learn to find things, to see things you wouldn’t have seen otherwise, even to do things.
Blogs provide a mechanism for me to write about what I am doing and learning , providing sequential posts that others can read and comment on. They are a bottoms-up approach to communication and knowledge management. A blog allows others to "see" what is inside my head. This can be a great tool for transferring knowledge such as lessons learned, new development techniques, or information about the latest news within the world

My strategy

It's all about building on your strengths, seizing opportunities – and preventing weaknesses and threats from getting in your way.

  • identify your unique or special abilities
  • avoid repeating costly mistakes
  • discover factors working in your favour
  • uncover potential barriers to progress

You can use the information gained to

  • focus your activities to create maximum return
  • discover hidden career opportunities
  • identify alternative career strategies
  • prioritise your next steps
